I do love my coffee, but do not love the chains that sell it. I could tell this place was the real deal by the lovely, earthy scent of coffee when I walked in the door. Subculture Coffee made a very excellent cortado, rich and strong. (Like all my men should be!) The iced mocha was just the right amount of sweet--so often this is practically a dessert drink. Not so here. These people know what they're about.

Subculture has some seriously good coffee. They really know how to make a perfect cup! Roasting their own beans is certainly a good way to start. I ordered an Americano, and it was maybe the best Americano I've had. You should try it out! The shop is a nice place to lounge, as they have ample seating, a silent movie playing, and lots of board games to choose from (we played Connect 4!). The service is great, too!

Subculture offers a great specialty coffee shop in a city sorely lacking options beyond Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts for your morning cup of joe. Located in bustling downtown West Palm, Subculture is everything you expect a trendy coffeehouse to be, without the snobbery. It's very quiet here but generally always busy. The coffee is strong. They have a lot of options from seasonal flavors like pumpkin spice lattes to your regular espresso and cappuccino. I really enjoy coming here whenever I'm in town. Plus they're open late on the weekends, which is very unusual for cool little coffee places like this! So if you are REALLY craving coffee at midnight on a Saturday, you can definitely get a good cup at Subculture.

I really enjoyed my coconut latte in my 100% recycled glass cup. The cafe has a very hipster vintage feel that makes a nice relaxed atmosphere and there are plenty of cool things to check out in the ceiling as you enjoy your beverage. They also serve beer from a tap and wine which seems to perfectly cater to all of my vices. I'd highly recommend this place.

This place reminds me of San Francisco. A great place to read, hangout, people watch or just relax. Coconut latte is a must

Excellent coffee. They roast their own beans on site. Homemade desserts. Cool vibe. Beer on tap and good wine list. Open late. Prices average...not too expensive or cheap. A good spot to chill on any night.

This afternoon was my first time at Subculture. The ambiance is really hip and reminds me of a smaller version of a Somerville/Cambridge, MA coffeeshop (vibes that I admittedly miss here in FL, so I'm glad to have found some). Admittedly, I did not like the iced coffee. I should have read the reviews before ordering and asked for a coconut latte, instead! I now know what to order the next time that I come in (and there will be a next time). I sat inside but the outside seating area seemed really cool. I haven't yet adjusted to the FL humidity, so I'm not sure that I will be spending a few hours reading out there any time soon. I was also taken aback that they serve alcohol there and have a happy hour! This is the first coffeehouse I have come to that also serves alcohol (and that says a lot). I peeked over and thought I saw berry cider...I'm lookin' forward to coming back and trying that!

I graduated from high school a couple of blocks away and if this place had been open back in the day, we would have been so happy. It offers a chill atmosphere with delicious snacks and an out of this world coconut latte. I'm so pleased with the changes underway in Downtown West Palm Beach and this place is a big reason why.

Subculture Coffee is a perfect addition to Clematis St. in Downtown West Palm Beach. Having attended high school in this area about 10 years ago, I remember Barnes & Noble being one of the few places to hangout after school. This place would have been very popular with my friends, who have all since moved away from Florida. My short trips back home are usually planned around cups of Cuban coffee, but I'm very glad that I traded some of my usual caffeine consumption for Subculture on this vacation. The sweet smell of fresh roasted coffee greets you at the front door. Subculture roasts their own beans inside the store. I was undecided on what to drink, until I saw another customer with an iced latte that looked very refreshing after walking around downtown, so I ordered the same. The espresso flavor was bold and not overwhelmed by milk, making this one of the best made iced lattes I've tasted. I love that they serve beer and wine, because sometimes you want to avoid the bars and just sip a cider at a coffee shop. The pastry selection wasn't huge, but there were a few layer cakes that looked homemade and very fresh. I would definitely stop in here to relax over great coffee and a dessert.

Ok, great house-roasted coffee. Got it. But wait, it's more than that. It's a great hang, a friendly, warm space. It just makes you smile. I'm a fan of Seattle, the Upper West Side, SOHO. But Subculture puts us in the map! This place changes the downtown area. Thanks Sean for your vision!

nothing hits the spot like a nice cold delicious cold brew to get you going for a fun filled day in wpb/sunfest. i am big fan of mom and pop coffee shops. the barista wasn't the kindest friendliest dude but sometimes it beez like that. i'd def come by again to sit and sip and watch the world go by as i get a caffeine fix

Love the rotating selection of baked goods. Some are from the bakery next door and then they also have healthier hippier stuff. I want them to switch to using all organic dairy. The roast is really tasty. Such a fun and lovely space. Ride your bike and utilize the awesome bike rack just west of the shop. It's in a nice little mini alley. I want to hang out in this alley and listen to music after bike rides. I love to see local business owners taking a risk and it paying off. It's tres chic and a treasure on the west end of Clematis.

This is the coffee shop West Palm Beach has always needed. If you've ever been to a big city's local coffee joint, you'll feel at home at Subculture. They're roasting their own beans, and the service is friendlier than most Starbucks. Need coffee? Need a place to work on you laptop? Just go here.

Great coffee shop. In fact perhaps the best coffee shop in palm beach county. Well made espresso and a clean bathroom.

I'm a unabashed lover of my peppermint white mocha frappuccino at starbucks, so you can't call me a coffee connoisseur by any stretch. I saw this coffee shop highly rated on yelp and noticed it was just a few blocks from my work, so my interest was piqued. I set out to visit one afternoon and as I step into the very hip indie coffee shop, it hits me that I don't know anything about coffee. I order a plain cappuccino, figuring that was a safe bet. They prepare it and hand it to me in a wide ceramic mug. I had kinda been planning to take it in my car with me. I didn't even realize coffee could be anything other than to-go and the barista never asked. I hanker myself down in the communal table and sip at my cappuccino. So bitter. Mind you, not the cappuccino's fault, just not the sugar laden creation I'm used to. I could go up and pour an ungodly amount of sugar in it, but I'm perhaps irrational insecure about that. So I drink it. Not so bad when I get used to it. I read up some suggestions on yelp, particularly the ones for the coconut latte, and came back a second time. This changes everything. The coconut flavor mellowed out the taste of the coffee to the point that I enjoyed it -without pouring any sugar in! The barista even asked me if I wanted it to-go this time, which I appreciated. I'm sure this place is amazing if you know your stuff, but for the rest of us dirty coffee casuals, it is still pretty amazing. Now I've just gotta work up the courage to ask for a suggestion from the barista!

This is a super coffee shop. The iced maple lattes are to die for, and the staff is incredibly sweet and helpful.

If you haven't had a coconut latte from Subculture, what are you doing with your life? As a college student, I need a constant supply of coffee, and when I have to go to Starbucks because of limited time, I'm always wishing that I was at Subculture! Every other Saturday, my best friend and I head to Subculture for coconut lattes and muffins (the blueberry lemon and strawberry jam ginger are our favorites). It's a great shop, and I always meet the nicest people there! If you're in the area, be sure to stop by!

  • Sarah M.

This is the best latte I've ever had. Hands down. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is great, the treats are yummy... Great place! Will return.

  • Ray B.

Super chill, best coffee shop I've ever had the pleasure of going to. It reminds of my favorite coffee shop in Chicago only better. The owner is always there roasting beans, and talkin to guests with a smile. The staff is solid, always very courteous and fast. My coffee is always perfect. I've had a few different types of food they offer and it's worth adding it to the bill. They have An excellent assortment of other beverages in the cooler plus Ya gotta love a coffee shop that offers beer. This place has a solid vibe that can't be beat.

Really good coffee and gelato, nice ambient and really good service. Try the iced mocha.

I have been waiting to try Subculture Coffee for a few weeks now and I managed to get in today. I loved the look of the place and it was nicely filled with customers at 2:45 p.m. on a weekday. There was a bit of confusion in regards to the line. There was a group of five men standing beside the open cooler to the right of the register and it made for an awkward squeeze to the front of the line. I would highly suggest a simple rope line to keep the area clear for the customers. The large table near the window had many open seats but most of the standing customers did not want to sit there. In fact, only two people were at the table at opposite ends. Perhaps some small campaign to get people to sit down with strangers would be nice. (A little, "make a new friend" sign on the table perhaps?) My friend and I did find a table but it had not been cleared of the previous occupants dishes. We stayed for nearly forty minutes and no employee came from behind the counter in that time to wipe down tables or check for dishes although someone did come out to get another box of sugar. AND FINALLY The Coffee: It was ok. As much as I liked the look of the place and the decor, especially the lamps with coffee beans in them, the coffee was just ok. You cannot sell "just ok" coffee and expect me to go back but apparently there is some coconut cookie variety available and I may have to go back and try it again just to get my hands on the cookie. I am willing to give it another go-round but until then... 3 stars

Ordered a cortado and I can honestly say it's one of the best I have ever had. The baristas were kind and the vibe was great. Location is cool as well.

  • Patty W.

Check out this place if you're need a caffeine fix. It's a cute little coffee shop that is located away from the madness of Clematis. I stopped in the other night to get a cup to go and it was good. The caramel mocha was soothing with each sip. The bakery treats looked so yummy, but I was not hungry for one. The cafe is very clean with its hip decor as well as the friendly baristas providing excellent service. Forget about Starbucks and get your coffee here instead.

  • Jessi M.

First thought before ordering; bathroom soap says a lot about a place. LOL! This place has nice bathroom soap, just thought I'd throw that out there. Classy little joint here. I like how they have almond milk for us vegans instead of just soy milk. I had a regular latte and it was really good. Also had a vegan cookie (probably made by a local vegan) and it was really good too. Great selling strategy to have it right out by the register. Anyways, stop on in if your little hipster self is in the area!

  • Mark M.

The complete package. Dead-on drinks, good (although not highly imaginative) selection of good grub, nice space convenient for downtown corporate minions. Every city (town, dorf) needs one of these (as it does a Harold's: just as good, different vibe).

I'm giving 4-stars this time, because I've only tried them once so far. My fellow Yelpers had me itching to try Subculture Coffee, so I went in with some people and ordered about. I set my sights on a cappuccino, while my companions settled for a glass of red wine. They brought our glasses to a table we had seated ourselves at and made sure we were comfortable with everything before leaving. My cappuccino was presented nicely - the barista had drawn a cute squiggle in the foam on top. While the presentation was nice, the flavor was a bit off. I still downed it, as I needed my caffeine fix, and I would have one again. The wine was good. I found myself looking around and imagining if I lived closer, I would be here often to hang out (y'know, typical 20-something-business-professional with their MacBook Pro.) Overall, I'd come back again. I'd actually like to see what they're doing during a busy season, so you'll see me soon.

I love that this place is open late. Had a pour over Ethiopian coffee, was really good!!! Also had the chocolate vegan ball or something like that, it was also good!!! I love your décor of the establishment. Crowd is really hip and ster, everybody was playing board games . Great times, will definitely go back!!!!!!!!

I really like their bottled juices by Alchemy but their coffee didn't win me over. I ordered an iced coconut latte as per reviews which suggested it was a must. They happened to be out of coconut milk so soy milk was substituted and then I had to ask for the coconut syrup because the barista forgot to add it. Taking a sip of bitterness pretty much ruined the drink for me - if only the syrup wasn't missed! Also, I came back again for juices a day later and the baristas just aren't friendly. I don't get that.

  • Rachel S.

I always appreciate a coffee shop that can make me feel cooler than I actually am. This coffeeshop has an indie vintage vibe with plenty of space to work or hangout. Also being a barista myself I thought the quality of their latte was great and at a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a high quality coffeeshop.

  • Angelina W.

Great atmosphere and the best coconut latte I've ever tasted! Very helpful knowledgeable staff and it's great when I can get my coffee fix and my boyfriend who doesn't drink coffee can get his beer fix! Taking a bag of beans home with me!

  • Rosanne O.

A great place for some specialty coffee! I am a coffee lover and when I lived downtown I was there quite often. When I am in town, I make it a point to grab a cup of coffee! Enjoy!

  • Jennifer T.

Nice place to visit in the "art " area. Probably the most popular place to visit in this area. I had the iced coconut latte one if the most popular iced drinks... was ok but not my favorite iced latte. The carrot cake was pretty great. If I'm ever back nearby I'll try another drink. Good decor, like the chalk board walls seems like a nice good wine hangout.

  • Nese V.

Best coffee place (& then some) in downtown West Palm. Spoons down; no competition. Staff is friendly and beyond efficient. Soy latte was delicious; chocolate cake was decadent and scrumptious; the Salt Water Bone-a-Fied Blonde was smooth, fruity, and goes down juuuuuuust right.

    (5)
  • Lauren D.

I love everything about Subculture. The coffee, the baked goods, the decor, the vibe, the boardgames, the staff, the eclectic mugs/tea cups... It's perfect! My favorite drink is a hot almond milk dirty chai latte, but I'm also a happy camper with a simple black cup of their roast of the day.

    (5)
  • Candice C.

Love the entire decor & atmosphere! Perfect for a low key, relaxed chat over tea and/or coffee.

    (5)
  • Anton O.

Great location and ambiance-and a welcome addition to the neighborhood-but the young hipsters whom run this place seem more concerned with their "fair trade" environmentally correct image, rather than the taste of their espresso. The beans are NOT Arabica, the onsite roasting overly harsh...and the result is a bitter brew. Of course, when you are dealing with Americans whom only know Starbucks, that is understandable. It's almost always about the packaging rather than product. Note to coffee startup types: Import experienced Italians to apprentice you in the fine art of coffee making. Maybe, partner with some of the smaller European roasters whom make incredibly refined and subtle coffee. It's an art after all...and when McCafe tastes better (they've taken the human element out of the brew with their automatic coffee machines), it's time to rethink your business model.

    (2)
  • Elaine C.

Love this café. The coffee is much stronger than I'm used to, but still tastes good. Love the decor, and the fact that there's plenty of places to sit, inside and outside.

    (5)
  • Sarah X.

Great coffee! Get the coconut iced coffee... Not on the menu, and it's their best seller. -Great service, -clean place, -Interesting music, (sounds like oldies, not my favorite) -Outside seating, some with shade, some with sun. I'll be back sometime for the pleasant service and amazing coconut coffee.

An excellent coffee shop for espresso and americano coffee. It has an awesome welcoming vibe even if your not a local. It is this commercial lofty feel but decorated to warm and cozy. The perfect mix for a funky coffee shop. If you find yourself in west palm this is a must stop to relax and enjoy an excellent cup of coffee.

  • Tyrone P.

A really unique and welcoming coffee shop! My wife and I really enjoyed their coffee and the laid back atmosphere. We even ended up playing a game of chess, while enjoying our coffee. Besides a good coffee based drink selection, if you are up for an alcoholic drink, they also have beer and wine. All in all, a great little shop highly recommend a visit if you are in the area!

If you want the Finest Coffee around, and that Portland/Seattle experience....This IS the place. Great Pour-Overs, knowledgable & down to earth Staff. I travel from Pompano Beach for an hour of Coffee Time.

  • Dave F.

The same coffee greatness that you'll find in Portland, Seattle, Brooklyn, but in Palm Beach - whoda thunk it? Great coffee, chilled vibe, local craft beers on tap, and a small but decent wine selection - what's not to love?

  • Sunny G.

I really wanted to like this place since good coffee I imagined was not going to be easy to find moving from CA but I'm pushing it when I say it was just ok. The cappuccino was cold, the coffee cake muffin was not that good but the choices in desserts was far and few between. The $12 I spent on 2 cappuccinos and 2 muffins was unreasonable for what we got but I would happily pay more for better. Atmosphere can only get you so far. Urth Cafe (CA), how I will miss you!

    (2)
  • Adam R.

I've heard of subculture from friends and decided to finally try the place out for myself. The atmosphere was very hipster, and the design really fits in with the trendy design people are looking for now. I had a latte, and as someone who has run a coffee shop, this was very good. My one small issue would be the people did not seem very cheerful, which is something I expect in a coffee shop -1 star for that. Overall, for West Palm, a nice establishment.

    (4)
  • Jack W.

Really liked the vibe. Would suggest you inform those who order an iced coffee that you're using a light roast or give them a choice between light and dark. Ordered one yesterday at your cafe. Drinking a light roast Is an acquired taste not for everyone. Never thought of asking before until I ordered one at your place

My favorite place to grab a coffee and/ or have a beer with your friends. I'm glad this place opened!

  • Brian P.

FINALLY! A real coffeehouse in downtown West Palm Beach. This place is totally legit. Great atmosphere, dark and rich coffee that they apparently roast on site, fabulous baristas (Bay Area imports?), and they have beer on tap from Due South. Oh, and Subculture, you had me at breakfast cookie. Where have you been all these years? I will be back for that American strong ale...

    (5)
  • Brent G.

Excellent coffee made right and balanced. Properly roasted coffee (which they roast theirs there) doesn't require any sweetening, typical mega-chain coffee shops products do. The coffee (mine was Americano, my wives was a latte) required nothing added at all. This is the perfect spot as well, there is Harolds up in Northwood and Coastars in Lake Worth, and now Subculture in West Palm, so we can stop in and get a "Proper" cup of coffee (sorry to be snobby but come on, that sTarB***s is bitter burnt crap). Oh they have Local Craft beer too!! Did I mention the place is cool a heck aesthetically as well. Sean and Rodney have done well and I will be back often.

  • Eleanor L.

After having a great meal at Hallabaloo, my friend and I had coffee at subculture cafe. Their coffee was some of the best I've had and I live in San Francisco. They also have in-house roaster. The cafe felt like I was in San Francisco or NYC. I definitely will be back. I highly recommend trying their coffee.

    (5)
  • Karen M.

Great location by downtown! The coffee is fabulous and the ambiance is great!! They have wifi for their customers and the place is really great to listen to some good tone and do some work;) Very relax scene!

  • Chelsea S.

Amazing coffee and relaxed atmosphere. The staff is very nice and great at what they do. My favorite is the maple latte but everything I've ordered has been great. I also think it's awesome that they're open late, it's nice place to finish the night at.

    (5)
  • G T.

The iced coffee tasted sour to me so I wouldn't recommend that. Not sure what the others are like but the place sure attracts a hip crowd, like hanging at a bar vibe.

    (3)
  • Patrick L.

Best coffee in town! Now roasting their own beans. If you want, Organic, Fresh, and perfectly roasted and brewed coffee...come here! Full espresso drink menu - and for none coffee drinkers, a nice selection of IPA beers and hand picked wines too! Space has a cool vibe and makes you want to hang out. Coolest independent coffee shop around.

  • Matt V.

If you were waiting for a great local coffee joint in West Palm Beach than you found it. Subculture is the best joint round town. Super great coffee, really creative art and layout, great music and feel, and baristas that know what they're doing. Go get coffee here, now. Also, open late? What a dream, finally someone does it right. Pros: Coffee Atmosphere Hours Menu Cons: -

  • David H.

This is definitely one of my favorite coffee spots in the world. The slow pours are my favorite. The aroma's of coffee roasted right on premises will make your visit an experience for all your senses. There's always something new being roasted and ready to try.

  • Jay R.

Riding the wave of newer indie coffee bars, Subculture is terrific. Visiting for a while from Boston where we have George Howell Coffee and 7 Pond Coffee Bar, I was delighted to find this gem offering great espresso and cappuccino. I also had a delicious blueberry muffin. (The chocolate chip cookie was so so.) Highly Recommended!

  • Jennifer T.

Subculture is so much more than a coffee shop. It is a space for genuine community. Most people that show up become regulars, and eventually friends. It is a sanctuary for good conversation, good fun, and endless opportunities. Of course, the coffee, tea, craft beer, and many other goodies are all delicious and reasonably priced. You definitely won't want to miss out on this spot.

    (5)
  • Kel G.

Great iced tea and their desserts are amazing. A little on the pricey side but they are downtown. I like the vibe of the shop. Space is tight but you don't bump into others. The stools placed at the counter are nice but a little awkward when you are trying to reach for the tea bags and someone is sitting in front of them. Or if you are waiting and the seats are taken there is not a lot of room. Besides that minor space issue, subculture is a great coffee place and bar (they offer beer and wine too)

    (5)
  • Jonathan P.

Prime example of what a coffee shop should be! Great staff, great selection of coffee, espresso, craft beer and misc other beverages, snacks and food.

A world class coffee shop that serves Due South and Funky Buddha beers. Fan freaking tastic.

  • Ben H.

This is the best place for coffee in the county. The espresso is as good as intelligentsia or stumptown. The bag of Ethiopian roasted in house that I got the other day was amazing. They've got pour overs, beer, food, and wine. We've already spent a ton of time here. I really like the owner, Sean, a really cool local shop owner.

Eclectic. Good vibe. Great coffee. Camped out with a laptop. Also has board games.

    (5)
  • Christian D.

Yes, the coffee's great and the vibe is cool. But the people are, too. Abby is skilled and efficient and nice, and she dispenses morning elixir in a way that made me think there needs to be a coffeeshop term that's equivalent to "bedside manner" for good nurses. Sean is the owner. He sits sentry as the beans roast, and resembles a brew master ensuring the perfection of a lager, or a father providing a watchful eye as a child masters a solo on the piano. He does a lot of other things, too, it seems, very calmly and well. (I went here on multiple successive mornings). He even teaches new recruits in a way that made me want to apply for a job here and get taught, too. Seemed like he really cared about every newbie, instructing on the roast and the prep and the presentation with care and affection. In wars, there's collateral damage. As I listened in to the orientation sessions, there was collateral learning... I overheard his instruction to make sure that the espresso has a good bronze color on the top... which made me think of a Bacardi master distiller I once saw in action. I also picked up that a latte has two shots of espresso, and the milk dilutes. Always thought it was one. See what you learn when there's a good teacher running amuk nearby? He was also nice to a homeless guy who came in. And then a few minutes later was talking shop with the posh owners of a new Porsche. A bit of a man of the people, it seems. Jason has an "absolute determination" tattoo in Chinese characters on his neck. He wears a series of plated interlocking body armor chunks for his motorcycle and he carries them into the shop... resembling what a barrista who was also a transformer might look like. He is a devoted spirulina microfarmer and advocate, and has greenhouses in his house, where he cultivates the culture and scrapes the bacteria paste into a fresh dollop for his yoghurt. See? Told you the people were cool.

Great coffee, great beer, great eats, what more can you ask for. I've been twice in two days, and I was always greeted with a smiling face. Very accommodating, making you feel at home. 10/10 would recommend

Good coffee & treats. The staff is friendly. The decor is very nice. Quite clean cafe (even the restrooms). One negative thing is the PBA kids can be a little rude. Had a bad experience with a big girl being loud & slamming her hands on the table whilst my friend & I played a game. Learn some manners!

Amazing place! I appreciate good coffee and am really picky about where I visit. I want quality and a good atmosphere along with good customer service. I received all of these at Subculture. While in town for a conference I visited three times and order black coffee, a latte, iced latte, granola, and banana/coconut bread. All were amazing! I loved it enough that I bought a pound of coffee to bring back to Jacksonville. Just be ready to pay for a parking meter if you visit during business hours. Oh, let me add that I visited another coffee shop in town one day because it was closer and I highly regretted it. I learned my lesson and the following days drove the extra ten minutes for quality.

  • Tyler M.

Love the look and idea of the place, you're missing the mark when it comes to coffee. Your roasting of the beans leaves a lot to be desired. Sometimes the coffees weak and other times it tastes burnt. Never consistent and never perfect. Also somehow takes you guys forever to make a simple latte or cappuccino, surely you guys would have mastered it by now. I Agee with the review on bringing in an Italian to train the staff. They know their stuff!! I want to love this place as it isn't Starbucks or Dunkin's, please prove me wrong guys..

Came back in since my last review. Sean, the owner, apologized for my prior experience and offered a drink on the house. This seemingly small gesture was much appreciated. I will be back to this shop that appreciates and listens to its customers.

I got a coconut latte while I was in West Palm Beach on business, and it has ruined my home coffee shop experience. I can't stop comparing local coffee to the magic I had at Subculture. That latte was the best coffee I can ever remember drinking. I buy a lot of $5 lattes that taste like $3 lattes; this was one was worth every penny and then some.

upgraded to 5 stars for consistency. have been here at least 8x now, always a great cup. love the new tin chairs way more comfortable then the other ones were. Have completely given up on Harold's at this point. love this place and also love C street. different vibes and different additional products but both great places.

Wicked pissah iced coffee. And us Bostonians love our iced coffee. Also a very cool vibe and free Wi-Fi. As Otis and Lex Luthor said to Miss Tessmacher (SP?) in Superman: The Movie, "What more could anyone ask?"

Love this place. That staff is always super friendly and attentive! Reminds me of my fav coffee spot in Gramercy 71 Irving!

Stopped in after hearing good things from several of my java buds. Environmentally -- score! An intimate setting yet didn't feel closed in, minimum back counter space (made it feel less institutional). Warmth in decor with natural wood, stamped metal, chalkboard-- blues quietly playing. They have a creatively intuitive set up, inviting exploration before getting to the order counter. Roaster is first thing you see and for most it might be the first ever seen. Subtle grain smell of early roast, all the way to the crackle of emptying the drum for cooling-- all sets the tone. Service did not disappoint-- When asking for what they have, my barista explained and poured a sample at the same time. Impressive. Didn't flinch when I asked for something bolder, and he recommended a pour over. Precision measurement of the high altitude Mexican beans rendered my cup served in a thick porcelain mug (great choice). Now for the tasting. Aroma-- was fruity citrus and taste was winey-tangy. Very pleasant! The mild acidity told me this was truly a dense bean grown above 3-4,000 feet. I'd put the roast at a City+ in my palate range, City ++ in Ave US java range. What a delightful experience all the way around. Open 3 months in this location, this place will be around for a long time.

Just what downtown WPB needed.....a coffee house alternative to Stabucks . The vibe here is cool, they are open late and, most importantly, the coffee is delicious. I had regular coffee the first time and a iced latte the second time. The coffee is strong without being bitter. My new go to coffee place!

Subculture is a great new addition to Clematis Street. It's a nice chill spot to enjoy either a coffee or a draft beer while you work, meet with friends or just relax. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is laid back. The only thing i would change about it is to make the chairs a bit more comfortable, as it's the kind of place I could hang out in for hours if it wasn't for that.

As a barista of five years, I can say that Subculture coffee has some of the best locally roasted coffee I have ever had. The baristas are knowledgable, the service is prompt and satisfactory, and you cannot beat the vibe of a local coffee shop! Beer, wine, juices, pastries, and assorted sodas are also available. Fantastic!

3.5 stars. delicious coffee, prompt, spot-on service, though the staff wasn't very warm. the coffee shop was neat inside. some muffins available. no high chairs on booster seats.

Real coffee place for real coffee drinkers. SubCulture knows their coffee and has a coffee roaster right up front. New roasts and blends are constantly being introduced. Espresso blend changes as well so be sure to ask about it. My wife missed the 'frappe' but found something that she still enjoyed. Always fun having a table along Clematis.

Why won't yelp let me leave 8 stars? I won't go anywhere else. I know this sounds weird... But my wife was going to divorce me.. She had the papers drawn up and had moved out, but I brought her a Kenya slow pour from Sub Culture and now we are working things out. She is in the kitchen right now chomping on beans. She won't even brew them, she just chews them up and swishes them around in her mouth with hot water. Let me tell you about my grandma... She was knocking on deaths door but a 12oz bag of that Thika now added 3-4 years to her life. I caught her drinking straight from the French Press. Spilled all over, not a care in the world. Another thing about Sub Culture.. I think they are open pretty much all the time. Want to go there at 1 in the morning? That's cool, they'll be open. In all seriousness, I really love their coffee. These guys really know what they are doing. I love coming here!

This is the best coffee anywhere around palm beach. Normally I special order beans and carefully brew my coffee with a ceramic drip thing because I can't trust any place to get the right beans and brew them correctly. This place does it right. They even steam the milk if you ask for milk. Not many places roast their own beans but they do that too. I HOPE THEY TAKE ON AND WRECK STARBUCKS.

In a world filled with Starbucks-lined streets, it's nice to have a coffee shop like Subculture to retreat to when you find yourself tired of the generic cup of could-be-just-about-anything. It's a breath of fresh {espresso-scented} air. I had my first visit this morning with a friend who grew up in the area but has been living in Chicago for the past 8 years and she was impressed with offerings and the vibe. To impress a Chicagoan takes some serious skills. I loved the ambiance and the selection of baked goods available. My French-press decaf coffee was freshly made and strong enough to sprout some hairs on your chest, even without the caffeine jolt. Subculture is definitely a spot I'll be back to visit... especially when I'm trying to impress "big city" friends. ;)

Fun, fresh coffee/cafe vibe! Lots of options - coffee, wine, sodas, craft beers, deli selections, yummy-looking pastries, fresh bananas, etc. Tons of board games to play, plus a large table in the front window if you come with a group. The staff is friendly and the latte I had was good!

Simply the place to go for a macchiato, or other less snobby styles of espresso drinks, in west palm. Harold's has the amazing ice coffee but subculture takes the win for hip decor and atmosphere. The perfect place to go after dinner at Hulabaloo

When I'm in West Palm Beach, this is the place I come to get some work done. It's pretty new, and I think it has the potential to be really awesome. The beans are roasted fresh on site, and you can tell the quality from your first sip. The baristas are really helpful and nice, with no attitude or snark. They have simple drinks, nothing too elaborate. This is a coffee house for folks who like coffee, not sugared caffeinated milkshakes. The baked goods are fresh and from the bakery next door. I had a strawberry muffin; the other option was blueberry when I was there. They had a selection of salads and snacks, but I really wanted something was a little more breakfasty and substantial, which is why I'm reserving my fifth star. It was one of those mornings where I wanted to get down to business and eat something protein-filled and hearty, like an egg sandwich or wrap, but I settled for the muffin instead. The muffin was definitely delicious, so it's not exactly like it was a punishment. They also have a well curated selection of wines and beers. They have free wifi and this is a chill place to hang out and get some work done, or have those long, deep coffee shop conversations with your friends or a date. The only other thing that would make this the perfect hang out spot for me would be if it was dog friendly and if the tables outside were shadier. It gets hot in the afternoon tropical sun. Even still, I'll definitely be back. This is the best place like this around, and it's just what I needed and was looking for. I got to come to the opening party when I was coincidentally in town, and I'm glad I passed by, checked it out, and got hipped to the opening. It brought me back twice over the next week because I was impressed. Keep it up, Subculture! You're *almost* perfect!

Hipsters, hipsters, hipsters. I will break this down to make it more accurate. The coffee is an easy 4 stars. The service is a 3 if I'm being generous. I stood at the register while the girl working went outside to flirt with some guy and the other guy working never even said hi even thou he obviously saw me. He did tend to his drinks like he was curing cancer with his coffee drinks which was quite entertaining to watch. The set up of the shop is a a 4 to five. Their baked goods looked delicious although I just stuck with coffee.

Awesome coffee spot, way better than starbucks! If you looking for a place that can put a "leaf" in your cappuccino, this is it. Plus they are a small local business, support local!

    (5)
  • Anais M.

This place is too snobby and overpriced! The server/baristas act as if they are doing you some "grand" favor by taking your order. It would be too much to ask that they smile or greet you with a friendly hello. And to top it off, their coffee is more expensive than Starbucks (which is mind blowing). When they first opened I was thrilled to support a local coffee shop, but unfortunately every visit I've made has discouraged me from returning. Now I go a few blocks down to C Street café where the lattes, service and food are much better, and they are certainly more reasonably priced.

What a great cafe! I very rarely like coffee, and I actually loved their iced coffee. Came back the next day for a cappuccino. The flavor of the coffee is just so top notch! Dark, fruity, almost chocolatey, strong but not bitter. The store itself is cute, there are a lot of tables both inside and outside, and the staff are friendly and competent. They also have beer, and two types of kombucha on tap! Lots of drink variety, and everything I've had has been good. If I lived around here, this place would be a staple.

The clean, hip vibe and cozy decor at Subculture will make you feel right at home. At least I did, because I feel like this place is very similar to something I would find in the SF bay area. I love the big chalkboard menu; chalkboard menus are so in right now! The friendly baristas were all so nice and completely not pretentious at all! :) Tasty drinks and a small case full of desserts will tempt you! There is a big communal table to work/study at (free wifi!) or start conversations with new friends. Street parking was not too hard to find right in front of the cafe.

The service is fantastic and the ambiance is wonderful! The giant coffee roasting machine is more than impressive! The location is also very easy to find! The prices are moderate for an urban coffee shop! I got the the: Cappuccino and the Pour over! The pour over is slightly strong so it has a nice bite to it which wakes you right up. The cappuccino looked legit! The barista knew what he was doing! I also got the "vegan clean coco cookies" which tasted like crushed black sesame and coconut oil, it has a mild flavor, a hint of sweet, very soft! I had both the flavors of the Chunkie Dunkies(I prefer the mint chocolate chip but my boyfriend liked the less sweet almond butter crunch, both reminds me of eating a granola bar) and two of the bottled cold pressed drinks from the side(I had the "revive" and "protect" but I think all of the cold pressed drinks would taste great, the packaging is also a plus)! The local Popsicles they sell are very good; I had the watermelon flavor and it's legit just the juice! Such a clean taste, not too overwhelmingly sweet. Overall Subculture is a chic coffee place with enough variety to satisfy everyone, with their moderate selection of vegan/paleo/gluten free I hope the quality and the service never drops! I would most definitely recommend to my friends!

With a love for coffee and experience working at Caribou Coffee for a little while I started out 2014 with the mission to visit all of the coffee shops in my area. After visiting a few, I thought why not write reviews and share my thoughts on each of them. So here we are... without any further ado let's dive right in to my unbiased review of Subculture Coffee. Location and Ambiance: Great location! Ambiance is the best of any coffee shop I have seen, really fantastic! Coffee: As this is a coffee shop its important to note how the coffee was. I can definitely say this was some of the better coffee I have had. You wont go wrong with a cap, latte, or black brew. The just made everything right. Food: Great selection of pasties and coffee pairing deserts. Staff: The staff was solid, and had some good recommendations. In summary, definitely give this a shot if you are in the area! Thanks, Connor Brady

I can't say enough good things about this place. I'm an out-of-Townes but me oh my! I've gone here every day I've been in town and haven't been disappointed yet. Mixed coffee is on point as well as their mochas but the gem I've had...the coconut latte. YUP. So good. Cheers to this coffee shop, it's environment, and all the fancy, freaking good coffee they have to offer.

Yesterday was my first time at subculture, well, my first time having a latte in general and I'm so glad I came here. I got a regular latte and it was so cute and delicious!! The employees are so nice and the place was packed! I can definitely see why it is so popular. It has a quaint outdoor seating area right next door with string lights that is perfect to hangout and chill.

Starbucks... Who? I'm ready to conquer my coffee desire with subculture coffee. This place is awesome. For me it was the perfect place to have alittle girl talk time with my good friend who is going to Turkey. She recommended this place since she loves local coffee shops. I don't blame her, this place has a cute cozy feel to it. I almost felt like I was out of town, yet so local. Their menu is written in chalk on their main wall. They have board games lined up if you want to play. They had yummy eating treats such as brownies and cupcakes displayed near their check out counter. They also serve beer if you do not want coffeenated drinks. My friend had a gorgeous art work cream inspired coffee. As well as a cupcake. I tried her cupcake it was scrumptious and fresh. I had iced coffee with Carmel flavor. I couldn't quite taste too much Carmel however it was yummy and perfect for the weather. I liked the fact they didn't put the cream in there and make it super creamy. They gave me cream on the side to pour as much needed. We sat there for a good 45 minutes talking and drinking our drinks. The noise was not a lot, it was not freezing cold etc . It was a good environment to enjoy ourselves and I liked it! Let's drink coffee to that.~

Subculture coffee has quickly become one of my favorite coffee places. I can't wait until their Delray location opens up! The perfectly roasted coffee beans are brewed into this superbly rich and delicious coffee. I have only purchased iced coffee from here, but it has every cup I have consumed has been nothing short of perfect. You don't need sugar, or any other fancy flavor cover ups - the coffee is great as is in your cup. The staff have been friendly, lots of yummy looking local treats to grab and eat, and they even have wine and beer. All in all a great spot to sit down and enjoy a fab cup of coffee.

Great coffee, beer, wine and desserts and a great day and late night hang. No wonder the college students have found this place. The coffee is roasted on site with the care that they don't put in over at McMinerva's anymore. How Starbucks used to be when they had care for quality over quantity is how Subculture Coffee is now. There's a city bike station nearby, so you can ride over and check in. The outdoor patio area that they converted from what used to be an alley is a nice place, but could use a touch more shade.

Decent little hipster coffee shop. The barista could have had a better attitude though.

4.5 stars. My drink was a 3 star. I had Coconut iced coffee with whole milk and it tasted watered down. I think it was a barista issue. She did not ask how much milk I wanted and it looked to be half. The mocha on the other hand was 5 plus. Best mocha we have had in awhile. The pastries were incredibly delicious. Had the BFO, PB bar and a cookie. Decor is fun but patrons looked to be camped out. 90% had their computers and were there for the long haul. Good for them, bad for non-reg customers. Pros: fun atmosphere, good food, good drinks, outdoor seating, lots of police patrons Cons: only meter parking, crowded inside with campers,

Here goes #500! Dedicated to the beverage that has fueled me to write so many reviews - but also a dedication to West Palm Beach which is getting more and more Yelp love as Broward-Palm Beach grows. Subculture had been on my hit-list since they opened. On a recent business meeting to WPB I decided the time was right to swing on in for an early afternoon pick me up. Found parking right out in front - score! There was a good amount of folks sitting with laptops cracked open - reading our typing away. If I lived closer this would definitely be somewhere I would work remotely - or even have meetings. As soon as you walk in they are roasting coffee beans. The smell is incredible. The entire staff is hip(ster) and have their own style. Their names are written on the chalkboard off to the west side of the shop - pretty cool touch. I ordered an iced mocha - it was incredible. I had the wife there too and she ordered a cappuccino - they forgot about her order, but when they realized it they quickly got it to her. I didn't deduct any stars because of how quick he cranked out the cappuccino when he realized the mistake. Great coffee isn't the only brew they serve here - They also serve local craft beers (Funky Buddha and Due South were on tap). Pretty awesome place to have a beer after work. Overall I was extremely impressed with the coffee quality (the fact they serve beer! HA!) and the vibe in the shop. I wish more of these coffee shops start popping up around BPB!

This is my second time here in two days (that should already say something). I'm in West Palm as a music journalist covering SunFest and needed a place that was open early/late and had coffee. The fact that their lattes are some of the best I've ever had is just a fringe benefit. And when I say best, that's a high compliment because I come from Hollywood, Fl, where a good cafe con leche is as close as a main road. First off, look at their hours. They're open til 2 a.m. or midnight earliest. What? A coffee shop? The only place I can find a coffee that late in Hollywood is my kitchen or the one 24 hour Dunkin Donuts and I promise it's not the same. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is warm, the coffee is spectacular and the lemon blueberry muffins are delicious. I'd highly recommend. SubCulture, PLEASE bring a third location to Hollywood, Florida. Pretty please? I'd come every day.

Love this place! The design is very warm and welcoming. Staff is very well trained and attentive. The coffee is delicious! Very nice outside area, great for people watching. Limited, but respectful craft beer menu. Don't forget they roast their own beans!

This is hands down the best coffee place on clematis! It's a few blocks down from the water but very worth it! The coffee is great, have juices and a very cool vibe in there! How could anyone go to Starbucks???? If you're from out of town do your self a favor and give it a shot. If you're from around here-I'm sure you know how awesome it is!

The coffee shop is in a cute trendy part of West Palm where beautiful, hip people abound. You walk in and the space is superbly decorated, a small but neat space. I loved the old wood furnishings. Subculture has something for everyone--wine, craft beer, and coffee. I wasn't going for the beer that day, but I was happy to see they offered Funky Buddha and other treasures. Our coffee was perfect. My mocha was just the right amount of sweetness. Instead of being an overdose of sugar, it had this nice bittersweet taste. As they served the coffee, it had aesthetic ripples of color. There are only two reasons it doesn't get 5 stars. The first reason is we felt a little snobbery coming from the clerks. As if, if you don't know enough about coffee and are regular Starbucks customers, you're a little beneath us. The second reason would be the simplicity of the menu. Okay, maybe for the coffee snobs that isn't what they are looking for, but me personally, the benefit of a local coffee shop is that they have their own unique coffee drink that you won't find at Starbucks--the german chocolate mocha or the firecracker mocha, or something out of the ordinary. Overall, though, the concept is fabulous. I love that they aren't a major chain. If they were in my neighborhood, I would love to support them.

I really like this place. It's a cool spot to hang out and chill with a friend. The coffee is great and they have tasty treats. My favorite part is the new resident homeless guy who posts up at night, smells like a dirty buttcrack, and for some reason has a Mac desktop but no soap. I suggest this coffee shop strengthens the aromas of their coffee beans so that the next time I come it will overpower the pungent smell of pit sweat. I felt bad for the couple on a date next to us. That date probably stunk. Edit: From five stars to three stars to one. Sorry Subculture. I've walked in there numerous times and your whole establishment smells like body odor due to one customer. I'm sorry, I understand love and kindness and all that but that is disgusting. You are selling food and beverages. I should smell coffee when I walk in. I will go check out C Street down the road. Edit #2: Management handled the situation. Yay, it smells like coffee again! Thank you!
